Secret Gore Letter to Tagliabue Re: Tenn Loss
Secret Letter Shows Al Gore Contested Superbowl XXXIV. The Associated Press has found a letter from Al Gore to NFL Commissioner Paul Tagliabue dated February 19, 2000. The letter reads as follows:
Dear Mr. Tagliabue, On January 30, 2000, the St. Louis Rams were named the winner of Superbowl XXXIV over my beloved Tennessee Titans by a score of 23 to 16. I sincerely believe that this was an error. As Vice President of the United States, I am formally contesting this outcome.
It is critical that every yard be counted, so I have assembled a panel of judges that has spent the last 19 days reviewing videotape of the 4th quarter. These judges carefully watched where the officials placed the ball after every play looking for possible errors, and trying to ascertain the intent of the ball carrier. The three judges, two Titan fans and one Rams fan, then voted on where the ball should have been spotted. This process has so far resulted in 11 spot changes giving Tennessee a net gain of
2.19 yards.
As you know time expired when the Titan's Kevin Dyson was tackled less than two yards from the end zone. These new yards are enough to put him in the end zone on that final play resulting in a Touchdown. I believe that if we continue this process long enough, we will eventually have enough new yards to give the Titans a two-point conversion as well.
I demand that you immediately count these new yards, and change the results to the correct score of 24 to 23 in favor of my Superbowl Champion Tennessee Titans. How can we teach our children that every yard counts, when we don't count every yard?
Furthermore, I believe that rowdy Rams fans intimidated the officials intomaking calls favorable to the Rams. I have contacted the Rams, and offered to drop my lawsuit if they agree to just play the whole game over. The Rams, in a blatant attempt to thwart the outcome of the game, refused to accept a rematch.
